Course description

This course provides professional education for those wishing to learn current marketing principles and practice, with a strong emphasis on developing analytical skills.

Course structure

Areas of study

Students must complete a major specialisation in marketing. All units taken as part of a major specialisation are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the Clayton campus.

Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Clayton campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. These other studies can, in some cases, form a second major specialisation in a commerce discipline or field of study.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

(a) completion of six compulsory common core units (36 points):

(b) completion of two further compulsory units (12 points):

First-year students normally may not take a second-year-level unit until at least four first-year units have been completed successfully.

(c) completion of a major specialisation of at least 10 units (60 points) in marketing with at least two units (12 points) at second-year level and three units (18 points) at third-year level.

(d) a total of 24 units (144 points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

(e) a maximum of 10 first-year-level units (60 points).

(f) a minimum of six third-year-level units (36 points), of which at least four (24 points) must be from those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.

(g) at least two non-compulsory units (12 points) must be taken outside the main field of study.

(h) an option to include a maximum of six units (36 points) from disciplines taught by other faculties or from an approved list of faculty units offered on campuses other than Clayton.

This degree with relevant units is recognised by the following legal entities:

  • Australian Institute of Management
  • Australian Marketing Institute
