Course description

This double degree course allows students to qualify with both the Bachelor of Business and Commerce and Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems degrees. This double-degree program is designed to provide a range of business and information technology disciplines and provides students with the foundation on which further advanced business and information technology studies can be undertaken.

Course structure

Areas of study

Students must complete a major specialisation in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, economics, human resource management, management, marketing, marketing communication, public relations and tourism. For details of the units required for major specialisations, refer to the Bachelor of Business and Commerce course entry in the ‘Outline of undergraduate studies – Berwick’ section of this handbook.

Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Berwick campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics.

In their information technology and systems component, students are required to complete a major in multimedia.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

(a) students must complete 18 units (108 points) from the Faculty of Business and Economics as follows:

(i) six compulsory core units (36 points):

(ii) a major specialisation of eight units (48 points) in a discipline or field of study of the faculty with at least two units (12 points) at each of second and third-year levels. The major must come from the approved list of majors.

(iii) at least four non-compulsory units (24 points) must be taken outside the main field of study.

(iv) a maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 points).

(b) students must complete 18 units (108 points) from the Faculty of Information Technology as follows:

(i) seven common core units (42 points):

(ii) a major in multimedia (66 points) as follows:

(c) students must also satisfy the following double-degree regulations:

(i) completion of 36 units (216 points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

(ii) a maximum of 15 units (90 points) of first-year-level units.

(iii) a minimum of 10 units (60 points) of third-year-level units.

This degree with relevant units is recognised by the following legal entities:

  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia
  • Australian Institute of Management
  • Australian Marketing Institute
  • Public Relations Institute of Australia
  • Australian Computer Society
