After successful completion of the first year of this program (65% average), students may transfer directly into the second year of the Bachelor of Technology (Infrastructure - Design, Construction and Management) offered by Monash and complete the final two years of the program. Throughout the program, there is strong emphasis on the application of information technology and the holistic development of the individual. Course structureThe first level of the course is completed at an approved TAFE institute. Students are awarded 48 points of advanced standing at level 1 on the successful completion of all prescribed level 1 units taken in approved TAFE institutes. The second year introduces students to university-style training in transportation, water supply engineering and civil engineering design in some of the most popular construction materials. These include concrete, steel, timber and masonry. The third year equips students with a combination of advanced practical, technical and business skills for entering the workplace. In addition to the six core units taken at this level, students are required to choose two elective units depending on their interests. Students who complete the program at an appropriate level and complete a further three semesters of civil engineering study can also receive the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree. Course requirementsThis is a new course structure for students entering level 2 of the program from 2006 onwards. Level 3 of the program remains unchanged.
