Course description

This course is designed for people who are working or intend to work in any area of management, with a particular interest in human resources. It covers the compulsory knowledge base of essential human resource management units and integrates theoretical concepts, research and examples of human resource management in practice. It also emphasises the strategic role of human resources and their contribution to organisational performance and examines key elements of human resource management.

Entry requirements

Applicants need to have:

  • completed a bachelors degree from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent qualification as determined by faculty board with a minimum of two years of relevant work experience, or
  • obtained an average grade of credit (minimum of 60%) or above in an Executive Certificate offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Course structure

(a) Students must complete four core units (24 points):

(b) Students must complete four units (24 points) from:

(i) Two 9000-level graduate units (12 points) taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics or other faculties of Monash University subject to course director approval and

(ii) Two units (12 points) chosen from 5000-level graduate units taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics, or other faculties of Monash University.

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Human Resources may apply for admission to the Masters in Human Resource Management and would be eligible for advanced standing for eight units.
