Course description

The course is designed for regionally based workers from diverse sectors who have a responsibility to engage with community groups, welfare organisations and local government. It provides knowledge of rural and regional community development principles and practices, with an emphasis on collaborative and self-directed learning.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement for entry is one of the following:

  • a three-year bachelors degree, or
  • demonstrable experience in community development or field of adult education.

English proficiency requirements

Applicants who are not native speakers of English will be required to demonstrate substantial competence in written and spoken English before admission. These requirements are:

(i) education in full English medium in an English-speaking country, or

(ii) IELTS -- 7.0 global (no score below 6); TOEFL -- 600 with TWE of 5; computer-based TOEFL -- 250.

Course structure

The course will comprise 24 points of part-time study over two semesters. There will be four 6-point units as follows:

  • RCD5602 Facilitating community development (6 points)
  • RCD5603 Collaborative engagement in communities (6 points)
  • RCD5605 Theory and practice of community development 1 (6 points)
  • RCD5606 Theory and practice of community development 2 (6 points)
