Synopsis: This unit builds on the concepts introduced in EDF5452. This unit considers the role and function of school music in a wide range of educational settings and addresses such current issues as music advocacy, school music performances, performance anxiety, and so forth.

Objectives: The broad aims of this unit are to become familiar with school music content appropriate for upper secondary schools, to develop an understanding of a range of music pedagogies that are used in school music departments; to collaborate with colleagues in the development and presentation of an original work of music theatre.

Assessment: Reflection on teaching: 50%, Project 50% + Student participation in the unit is vital either on-campus or via the on-line forum + Students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for double degree students) and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice.
