Synopsis: An extension of the studies undertaken in EDF5450, especially the development of school instrumental teaching (its practices and organisation), school performance ensembles (bands, choirs, orchestras), musical theatre productions, conducting and music technology.

Objectives: The broad aims of this unit are to develop an understanding of the broad range of music skills and understandings required in school music departments; to share instrumental expertise with colleagues; to explore a range of class performance strategies.

Assessment: Philosophical statement (ungraded hurdle requirement) + Reflection on teaching: 50% + Teaching material development 50% + Student participation in the unit is vital either on-campus or via the on-line forum.

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week
