Synopsis: Introduction to concepts of database and data management in organisations. Topics include the motivation for data management, relational and legacy (hierarchical and network) database systems, designing and implementing relational databases, relational algebra, use of the SQL language, client/server architecture, distributed databases.
Assessment: Assignments: 25% + Examination (2 hours): 75% + Students must pass the examination in order to pass the unit.
Contact Hours: Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour laboratory per week
Prerequisites: BUS1010 or equivalent
