Course description

The Bachelor of Multimedia Systems replaces the Bachelor of Multimedia, the Bachelor of Multimedia Computing, the Bachelor of Multimedia Business and Computing. The course aims to produce graduates with the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential to the analysis, design and implementation of multimedia products, services and systems. Students can choose from four possible majors: applications; programming; enterprise; or games development.
The course makes extensive use of studio mode learning.

Entry requirements

Two entry points into this degree will be offered.

Entry into the generic Bachelor of Multimedia Systems

Entry to the course requires a VCE study score of at least 25 in units 3 and 4 of English, and successful completion of units 1 and 2 of mathematics (any). Equivalent studies will be accepted.

Entry to the Bachelor of Multimedia Systems (Games Development)

Entry to the BMS games specialisation requires a VCE study score of at least 25 in units 3 and 4 of English, and successful completion of units 3 and 4 of Mathematical Methods (or higher). Equivalent studies will be accepted.

Course structure

For students who have not obtained direct entry to the games development major via VTAC, entry will be permitted on the basis of a distinction average for all first-year units (core and programming major) plus a high distinction for MMS1802 (Object-oriented programming 1).

The BMS will be awarded as a tagged degree, eg

if the course requirements for a particular major have been met, otherwise the degree will be awarded untagged as

where a student has selected a `mix-n-match' set of major units to meet their individual study/career needs.

Professional recognition

Arrangements are in place for the Bachelor of Multimedia Systems to be accredited with the Australian Computer Society.
