On-campus (Clayton)
This double degree provides a professional education in the disciplines of biomedical science and economics, with a strong emphasis in developing skills as health economists in the health services industry.
Students
must complete a major specialisation in economics. All units taken as part of
the major specialisation are limited to units taught by the department of
Economics on the Clayton campus.
Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Clayton
campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. Students must also complete
the prescribed units from the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.
The
degree requirements are:
(a) Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the Faculty of
Business and Economics as follows:
(i) Completion of six compulsory common core units (36 credit points):
(ii) Completion of five further compulsory units (30 credit points):
First-year
students normally may not take a second-year unit until at least four
first-year units have been completed successfully.
(iii) Three third-year-level units (18 credit points) from the Department of
Economics to complete a major specialisation in economics.
(iv) Two further units (12 credit points) drawn from those offered at second
year or third year from the Faculty of Business and Economics (Clayton).
(v) A minimum of four third-year-level units (24 credit points).
(vi) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 credit points).
(b) Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the Faculty of
Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences as follows:
(i) The compulsory units BMS1011, BMS1021, BMS1031, BMS1042, BMS1052, BMS1062,
BMS2011, BMS2021, BMS2031, BMS2042, BMS2052, BMS2062, BMS3011, BMS3021,
BMS3032, BMS3042.
The degree must be completed in a maximum of 10 years of study.
