Course description

This course has been designed for persons who are working, or intending to work, in any area of industrial relations, management, human resource management or the management of people. It focuses upon the workplace and industrial aspects of industrial and employee relations and makes the necessary connections with the broader institutional legal and economic framework

Course structure

Students must complete eight units (48 credit points) from the following list:

• MGX5090 Strategic industrial and employee relations management
• MGX5100 Special topic in industrial and employee relations
• MGX5140 Issues in labour relations
• MGX5150 Pacific rim employee relations
• MGX5160 Advocacy and negotiation
• MGX5080 Bargaining and dispute resolution
• MGX5130 Equity and discrimination in the workplace
• MGX9030 Introduction to labour economics
• BTX9060 The law of employment
• BTX9070 Labour relations law
• MGX9080 Research skills for industrial and employee relations
• MGX9220 Industrial relations
• MGX9180 Employee relations
• MGX9850 Human resource management

In addition, students may select units from those offered by the Department of Management at other campuses.
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Industrial and Employee Relations may apply for admission to the Master of Industrial and Employee Relations and would be eligible for advanced standing for eight units.
