This coursework masters provides an extended education and training in methods used in the design, development and application of computer systems for the management of business operations. This involves the study of business-related computer techniques and business procedures leading to an understanding of the design, operation and control of computer systems. Applications include those in management, business data processing, planning, scheduling, forecasting, production management, inventory management, financial management, business modelling and other functional areas of business, industry and government. Students may also take some units on-campus at Clayton. Students who successfully complete 48 points may exit the course with a Graduate Diploma in Business Systems.
Graduates of an Australian bachelors degree or equivalent will normally be admitted to the course.
Generally, students who have completed similar units in previous studies will normally be required to make substitutions. Credit will only be granted for postgraduate units that have not counted for the award of any other degree or diploma. Where credit is granted, the number of general elective units that can be taken will be reduced so that students satisfy the above criteria.
The course consists of 72 points (12 units of 6 points each) of coursework units, including two core units, plus six postgraduate electives, plus two IT faculty electives and two general electives. The structure is as follows:

or, with the permission of the course director, students may select on-campus units from the School of Business Systems.

These must be level 4 or higher units offered by any school within the
university including the Faculty of Information Technology. Units outside GSCIT
and the School of Business Systems may only be taken with permission of the
course director and school responsible for the unit.

The Master of Business Systems degree meets the professional-level membership requirements of the Australian Computer Society.
