Master of Information Technology

Course code: 2402 + Off-campus (Gippsland) + Australian residents - 2005 annual fees: TBC + International students - 2005 annual fees: $20,400 per year, or $2550 per six-point unit + Course director: Dr Kai Ming Ting

The course provides a broad program in information technology, enabling students to select specific areas for in-depth study, or to construct a program from a range of suitably advanced units. It aims to provide the conceptual and theoretical framework in which students can appreciate and integrate new software and hardware technologies, and, within an information technology context, use them to develop solutions to complex problems. The course deepens students' theoretical knowledge in specific areas so that they will have the intellectual and conceptual foundation to play leading roles in the development of the information technology industry.

Entry requirements

A first degree which is recognised as equivalent to an Australian bachelors degree in computing, computer science or a technical information technology field.

Course structure

The course consists of 72 points of coursework units. The 72 points may include six or 12 points of individual project work or can comprise of 48 points of units plus a 24-point minor thesis. At least four units (24 points) must be taken from the following list:

Students may select not more than four postgraduate units with a maximum of two 9000-level units, offered by any faculty of Monash University, with approval from head of school or nominee.

Assessment

A combination of assignments and final examination for each unit. A pass is required in the final examination to pass the unit.

Professional recognition

The Master of Information Technology degree meets the professional-level membership requirements of the Australian Computer Society.
