Physics and instrumentation for radiation therapy 2 (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to: 1. understand the scientific concepts and applications of electron beam therapy; 2. describe the various applications of brachytherapy; 3. understand the principles of digital image processing; 4. understand and explain the basic principles underpinning the operation of CT and MRI equipment; 5. understand and explain the advanced techniques of radiation therapy including multi-leaf collimation, dynamic wedge and stereotactic radiosurgery; and 6. describe the principles of intensity-modulated radiotherapy.

Assessment: Written examination (three hours): 75% + Three assignments: 25%

Off-campus attendance requirements: Compulsory attendance of radiation physics tutorials.

Prerequisites: RTS4020, RTS4021, RTS4022

Corequisites: RTS4023, RTS4025
