Unpacking midwifery knowledge (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this unit the student should be able to: 1. Examine dominant paradigms for the generation and validation of knowledge in society 2. Review the historical development of midwifery knowledge 3. Discuss contemporary philosophies and ways of knowing in midwifery 4. Discuss evidence informed practice, including debates as to what constitutes evidence in the context of midwifery knowledge 5. Critically appraise various research approaches and their applicability in developing midwifery knowledge 6. Develop midwifery competency within the context of unpacking midwifery knowledge

Assessment: Written assignment (2000 - 2500 words): 50% Written assignment (2000 - 2500 words): 50%

Contact Hours: 4 hours per week for 13 weeks

Prerequisites: NUR1401, MID1101, MID1002
