Foundations of knowledge, science and evidence based CBEH (3 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: By the completion of this unit, the student will be able to: 1. Explain the concepts of science, knowledge and truth, scientific method, research, and evaluation 2. Demonstrate a knowledge of the core elements of a scholarly approach to investigations 3. Demonstrate the use of information technology to access research resources relating to emergency care and prepare a literature review on a topic of interest relating to CBEH 4. Demonstrate critical appraisal of the literature related to an aspect of emergency care practice 5. Demonstrate the ability to clearly present their thoughts and analysis to their peer group by way of a formal presentation, and in writing by way of the Unit assignment 6. Outline the principles of evidence-based practice, determining evidence and transmitting theory to practice in the setting of CBEH

Assessment: Literature search and 500 word summary: 20% + Worksheets (x3): 30% + Assignment (1500 words): 40% + Verbal presentation on assignment topic: 10%
