Fundamentals of heat transfer (4 points)

Synopsis: Heat transfer modes: conduction, convection and radiation; steady heat conduction, circuit analysis of steady and unsteady conduction. The equations of conservation of mass, momentum and energy for convection heat transfer, differential and integral analysis, non-dimensional groups and the analogy between momentum and heat transfer. Similarity, approximate and numerical solutions for forced convection boundary layer heat transfer.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 90% + Other assessment: 10%

Contact Hours: 22 lectures and 22 tutorial/laboratory hours

Prerequisites: MEC2430, MEC2480, MAT2901, MAT2902

Corequisites: MEC3465 or MAE3965
