Synopsis: Review of control volume formulation. Introduction to the differential formulation of the equations of continuity, linear momentum and briefly, energy. The linear momentum equation and its application to fluid mechanics, via the Reynold's Transport Theorem, leading to the Navier-Stokes equation. Introduction to potential flow and turbulence. A review of thermodynamics leading to compressible flow in converging-diverging nozzles, normal and oblique shocks. Turbomachinery, including the performance of pumps, fans and turbines based on dimensional numbers. The effect of fluid flow on performance of turbomachines. Open Channel Flow (self study). Acoustics and its perception as noise.
