Measurement and computer instrumentation (4 points)

Synopsis: Measurement theory. Statistical analysis applied to measurement. Transducers in hand-held measurement and in automated systems. Types of measurement signals. Electronic and optical signals. Signal conditioning and treatment. Implementation of automatic measurement systems. Integrated approach to transducer action, signal transmission, data-acquisition, processing, and action/display. Supervisory software in the system design and operation. Virtual instrumentation (Lab view or similar software).

Assessment: Theory examination (2 hours): 70% + Laboratory-based assignments: 30% + These are work requirements.

Prerequisites: ENG1301 (or GEG1503) and ENG1602
