Synopsis: Problem formulation and programming concepts. JAVA: standard data types, arrays; control statements; functions, including parameters. Spreadsheet concepts using Excel. Structured problem solving techniques, applied particularly to engineering problems, will be treated using these tools.

Assessment: Written examination (3 hours): 70% + Assignments and laboratory work: 30%

Contact Hours: 24 lecture/tutorial hours and 24 laboratory hours

Prerequisites: Basic computer familiarity will be assumed.
