Authorship and Publishing (6 points)

Synopsis: The unit explores the social and professional conditions under which works of literature are written and brought into the public domain and the nature of the professional work of authors, agents, editors and publishers. It will deal with practical as well as theoretical and historical aspects. It may be taken by itself or together with ENH2050/3050 `The reader in history' which covers the complementary topic of reception.

Assessment: Short exercise (1100 words): 30% + Essay or practical exercise (2000 words): 40% + Class test (1 hour): 20% + Attendance and participation: 10%

Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 lecture and 1 tutorial) per week

Prerequisites: A first-year sequence in English or permission
