When students take the Bachelor of Education degree and the Bachelor of Laws degree in combination, they are able to complete both courses in five years of full-time study with overload.
This double degree will extend the range of skills of graduates seeking employment in legal practice and other fields of the law. For graduates who may wish to seek employment as teachers, the course will equip them to teach legal studies and a second teaching unit in secondary schools. Opportunities also exist for further study.
Applicants must have satisfactorily completed the VCE or its equivalent including: units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (any) and a study score of at least 30 in any other three VCE studies, and an ENTER which is sufficient for entry to the BEd/LLB degree.
To receive the awards of Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Laws,
students must successfully complete units totalling 264 points consisting
of:
(a) Studies in law (144 points), including a major study in law (three
years of study) and minor study in arts or science or commerce (24 points)
which satisfy the requirements for the study of two methods and practice-of-
teaching unit sets (A and B sequence = method set). These are the requirements
for employment laid down by the Victorian Department of Education and Training
and non-government authorities.
(b) Studies in education (96 points), including a series of units relating
to the theory and practice of education, teaching and curriculum. Practicum
placements are also included.
Candidates intending to qualify as secondary teachers need to be aware that
their major and minor studies must satisfy the requirements for the study of
two methods and practice-of-teaching unit sets (A and B sequence = method set)
in their fifth year and the requirements for employment laid down by the
Victorian Department of Education and Training and non- government
authorities.
Progressively over the course, students will be completing more of the
education component, until the final year which will be entirely education,
including an extended teaching practicum. This practicum is a program of field
visits to different educational sites including structured teaching experience.
Students will be required to complete projects related to their field visits.
The visits are an integrated part of work in the Bachelor of Education program.

Students must successfully complete teaching practice which consists of a minimum of 80 days of supervised school experience. Students who are employed in schools must complete a minimum of 40 days of supervised practicum in a setting other than the school in which they are employed.
This course consists of five years of full-time study or equivalent part-time study taken on-campus, with school or industry visits for practica. The expected number of hours per week for a full-time student is 48.
