Bachelor of Communication - Berwick


General information

Course code: 1275 + Berwick

Objectives

The Bachelor of Communication explores the practical operations of mass communications technologies as well as their social and cultural aspects. The structured nature of the course enables students to specialise in advertising, journalism, multimedia, public relations or tourism, therefore preparing them for specific vocational opportunities.

Please refer to `Entry requirements' under `Arts regulations and definitions' earlier in this section.

Course structure

To fulfil the requirements for the Bachelor of Communication, students must complete the following:
(a) a major in communications (48 points)
(b) a minor in an arts discipline (24 points)
(c) a further first-year sequence in an arts discipline (12 points)
(d) MKW1120 Marketing theory and practice and MKW1220 Public relations writing
(e) a minimum of 36 points at a third-year level (across the duration of the degree)
(f) 144 points in total, 84 points of which must be from arts
(g) in the case of double degree/award programs, simultaneously complete the requirements for the TAFE diploma course in professional writing and editing or the requirements for one of the degrees offered as a double degree with the Bachelor of Communication.

Arts sequence

Arts sequences offered at Berwick include international studies, Japanese, journalism, psychology and Hispanic. Alternatively, students select a sequence of arts units taught at one of the other campuses of the university. Students who opt for this alternative should note that it will involve travelling to another campus to attend lectures, and close attention will need to be paid to the lecture timetable.
