Graduate Diploma in Computing by off-campus learning

General information

Course code: 1747 + Gippsland campus + Course leader: Ken Harris

This course is designed for those with tertiary qualifications in any discipline who wish to gain a first qualification in computing. It is offered part-time over two years of study.

The course provides students with recognised knowledge and skills in computer programming, information systems and information technology, and with a practical knowledge of computer hardware and software. It aims to provide appropriately trained professionals in the field of commercial computing and to develop a conceptual framework that will allow students to keep pace with new developments.
Off-campus students need to make extensive use of a personal computer and access to the university's computer systems through an internet service provider. Students intending to purchase a microcomputer and modem should consult with faculty staff beforehand, to ensure compatibility with software used in the course.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement is the equivalent of an Australian bachelors degree. Applicants who do not have a tertiary qualification may be considered for the course if they have completed two years of tertiary studies (or equivalent formal courses) and have at least two years of relevant work experience.

Course structure

The course consists of eight units covering computer programming, software design, information technology and information systems, with a project in the final year. All students will be required to have met the objectives and satisfied the assessment requirements of eight units given in the following schedule:

First year
Second year

In addition, three units are to be selected from a list approved by the head of school. Approved units offered by off-campus learning include the following:
