The Master of Education (TESOL - International) is designed to meet the needs of teachers or prospective teachers from overseas who are four-year qualified and who do not wish to teach in Australia. For local students who do wish to have the option of also teaching in Australia, it would be an alternative to the Master of Education (TESOL) if the advanced practicum (with field placement) were taken and the applicant were deemed already qualified as a teacher (as per local requirements).
To be eligible for admission to the course, applicants must hold either an approved three-year bachelors degree and an approved fourth year of study, or an approved four-year bachelors degree, or have qualifications or experience considered by the faculty board to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above awards.
Note that for this qualification to be recognised by employment bodies in
Australia, there is an additional requirement for applicants to have completed
teacher training recognised in Australia. Applicants will need to also complete
the following unit as a general elective unit during the course: EDF 6238
Advanced practicum in language teaching.
The practicum option is only available to students who enter the course with an
IELTS or equivalent of 6.5 or better.
Applicants must also demonstrate their English proficiency.
Applicants who are not native speakers of English will be required to demonstrate substantial competence in written and spoken English before admission. These requirements are:
