Embarking on Research (12 points)

Synopsis: Students will be introduced to a range of research perspectives. Differences between and within quantitative and qualitative methodologies will be examined as will the understandings of knowledge which underpin various research traditions. The importance of ethical research will be discussed and related to Monash requirements. Attention will be given to thesis craft including construction of research topics, identifying and reviewing literature and the relationship between these and research design. The notion of research community and differences between these will be exemplified through various research interests within the Faculty. Key elements of the examination process will be explained

Assessment: Assignments (minor 1000 words 20%) + Major research proposal (5000 words): 80%
