The Master of Business (Banking and Finance) by coursework and minor thesis offers specialised studies in the banking and finance industry. The program aims to provide candidates with the conceptual and managerial decision-making skills necessary for effective management in the continuously changing domestic and international financial market environment.
The course comprises 16 units and is designed for two years of full-time
study. The first year consists of four core units and four electives. The
second year contains eight elective coursework units at an appropriate level.
Alternatively, students with excellent results in their first year of study may
undertake a minor thesis and five course units. Students wishing to undertake
the thesis option should complete AFC4100 (Research methods in accounting and
finance). This is only offered during the day in the March to June semester.
This unit may be taken as a second semester of study first year elective with
permission of the course director.
Applicants need to have completed, with an average grade of credit or above, a
degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or, for entry into the second
year, an honours degree in a relevant discipline, or the Graduate Diploma in
Banking and Finance, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary
institution. No credit for work done previously is available in this masters
degree.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of
Accounting and Finance as to the 2003 course fee. Course fees are set and
reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Students who have completed a Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance with an average grade of credit or equivalent will only need to complete year two units.
