Differential equations and modelling

6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 1.5 hour workshop per week + Second semester + Clayton/Gippsland/OCDL + Prequisites: MTH1030 or MAT1085 or equivalent + Corequisites: MTH2010 + Prohibitions: MAT2040, MAT2047, MAT2902, MAT2920 or MAT2911

Synopsis: Ordinary differential equations: the solution of first and second order differential equations by analytical and numerical techniques. Applications of ordinary differential equations. Types of partial differential equations and their solution by separation of variables. The heat equation and wave equation: analytical and numerical solutions. Mathematical modelling using differential equations.

Assessment: On-campus: Examination (3 hours): 50%; Test: 30%; Workshops: 30% + Distance education: Examination (3 hours): 70%; assignments and tests: 30%
