GRN1515German Studies, advanced III, part 1(ART)
C Weller and C Rigby 6 points + 5 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: VCE (HSC group 1) German + Prohibitions: GRN1115, GRN1215, GRN1315, GRN1415, GRN1615 or GRN1030 or GRN1070 (pre-1997 codes) Synopsis: Component 1: Spoken and written German. Areas covered will be politics, history, social issues, environmental issues, humour, literature and literary figures. Attention will also be given to general aspects of daily life, including colloquial language and proverbs, and to technical language. Component 2: An examination of the cultural and social history of the German-speaking world from the period 1848 to 1945 through lectures and selected readings, along with an introduction into the basics of text analysis. Assessment: Essay (1000 words): 20% + Class paper: 15% + Test (45 mins): 15% + Exam (1 hour): 20% + 4 Homework exercises: 20% + Oral assessment: 10% |
