German Studies, advanced I, part 1

6 points + 5 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: VCE (HSC group 1) German + Prohibitions: GRN1115, GRN1215, GRN1415, GRN1515, GRN1615 or GRN1030 or GRN1070 (pre-1997 codes)

Synopsis: Component 1: A communicative course designed to further speaking and reading skills in German. The emphasis is on learning to use German correctly in discussing a variety of topics. Component 2: An examination of the cultural and social history of the German-speaking world from the period 1848 to 1945 through lectures and selected readings, along with an introduction into the basics of text analysis.

Assessment: Essay (1000 words): 20% : Class paper: 15% + Test (45mins): 15% + Exam (1 hour): 20% + 4 homework exercises: 20% + Oral assessment: 10%
