The course has been designed to prepare students to work at a professional
level in a scientifically oriented environment in which application of modern
business techniques is required, or in a commercial environment in which a
background in science or technology is desirable.
The
basic requirement for entry to the course is satisfactory completion of the
Victorian Certificate of Education or equivalent with a study score of at least
25 in units 3 and 4 English (any), and any two units from General Mathematics
and/or Mathematical Methods at units 1 and 2 level plus at least one unit of
either information technology, biology, chemistry or physics. Some studies in
business-related areas are helpful but not essential.
Students who have completed the first year of the normal Bachelor of Science or
Bachelor of Business and Commerce at the Gippsland campus with good academic
results may be admitted to the second year of the double degree with full
credit for appropriate first-year studies.
The
Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Business and Commerce is normally taken over
four years of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time study or
off-campus distributed learning. Units with a total points value of at least 96
points from the Faculty of Science and 108 points from Faculty of Business and
Economics units are to be completed, meeting the following requirements:
(a) Completion of six compulsory units:
(b) Completion of a business major of at least
48 points, including at least 12 points at each of second and third levels (one
core unit from part (a) may form part of the 48 points requirement).
(c) Completion of at least 48 points of business units beyond first level,
including at least 24 points at third level (the business sequence meets part
of this requirement). Business majors: accounting, business law, economics,
electronic commerce, management, marketing.
(d) Completion of two six-point science core units:
(e) Completion of two science discipline sequences (excluding computing) consisting of:
(f) Completion of one six-point first-level science unit from a discipline other than those studied under part (e). Science discipline sequences: applied biology, applied statistics, applied chemistry, mathematics and modelling, human physiology, psychology, and resource and environmental management.
