Course code: 1747 + Gippsland campus + Fee-paying course: unit fee $1610 per six-point unit; international unit fee $2034.38 per six-point unit + Course director: Mr Ken Harris

Aims

The course is designed for those with tertiary qualifications in any discipline who wish to gain a first qualification in computing. It aims to provide students with recognised knowledge and skills in computer programming, information systems and information technology, and with practical knowledge of computer hardware and software that can be put to immediate use. It also aims to allow graduates who are working in the computing industry to enhance their knowledge and expertise, and keep pace with developments in this area.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement is a degree from a recognised university or college of advanced education; or an equivalent tertiary-level accredited award in some area other than computing; or satisfactory completion of the Graduate Certificate in Computing offered by off-campus distributed learning from the Gippsland campus. Students entering the course with the graduate certificate are given credit for the four units completed in that course.
Special entry requirements exist where in any year, up to 10 per cent of admissions made may be granted to applicants who do not meet the above entrance requirements. Such admissions will be subject to the approval of the board of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, and candidates will be required to satisfy the following criteria: (i) at least two years in total, of tertiary-level courses and/or industry-level courses assessed as being at tertiary level; (ii) at least two years of relevant work experience.

Course structure

The Graduate Diploma in Computing is offered by off-campus distributed learning study, and is normally completed over two years.
The course consists of eight units covering computer programming, software design, information technology and information systems. All students will be required to have met the objectives and satisfied the assessment requirements of eight units as given in the following schedule:
