Client server and WWW applications

6 points + 4 hours per week + First and Summer semester + Gippsland, OCDL + Prerequisites: GCO2815 + Prohibitions: COT3031

Synopsis: Introduction to distributed/client-server systems. Client and server operating systems. Network operating system features to support C/S. Middleware: RPC,MOM,TP monitors. SQL database servers. Data warehouses. Client-server transactions. Client server and the Internet. Internet database systems. Distributed objects, CORBA, DCOM, OpenDOC. Distributed systems management, client server tools. Stored procedures, functions and triggers as a tool for client server development. WWW DB access via scripting languages such as Perl, PHP,ASP and JSP. 32bit OS required. Acess to the university's computer systems is compulsory.

Assessment: Assignments (2): 40% + Examination (3 hours): 60%
