This
course provides a tertiary education channel for supervisory and administrative
personnel whose knowledge is largely self-developed. It is designed to provide
a broad knowledge base in business and develop in students the management
skills to recognise and implement improvement opportunities within
organisations.
The diploma fully articulates into the Bachelor of Business and Commerce program.
All applicants should satisfy Monash University's minimum entry requirements as outlined in the section on entry requirements in this guide.
Satisfactorily completed the VCE, including English units 3 and 4 with a study score of at least 25, plus any two units from General Mathematics and/or Mathematical Methods at the unit 1 and 2 level. Please provide an ENTER statement with application.
Satisfactory completion of qualifications deemed to be equivalent to the VCE such as interstate Year 12 or International Baccalaureate, or completion of the TAFE Certificate IV or one year of an Advanced Diploma (formerly Associate Diploma).
Those who have not satisfied the above admission requirements may do so by successfully completing two units with a credit average at university level. These may be studies either on-campus, by off-campus distributed learning or through Open Learning.
Students who have undertaken study at Monash University will have their results taken into account when applications for admission are assessed.
Access to an IBM-compatible computer is essential for the use of word processing and other software packages. It is also recommended that off-campus distributed learning students have access to a modem to facilitate email communication with teaching staff.
Weekend schools are run three times each semester for some of the business units. Attendance is optional for those students wishing to attend.
The course consists of eight units - five core units and three electives - normally taken over four semesters of study by off-campus distributed learning. The recommended sequence is shown below:

Electives must be drawn from units offered within the Bachelor of Business and
Commerce. Please note: prerequisites may apply.
Assessment is by a combination of assignments and final examination for each unit. Generally a pass is required in the final examination to pass the unit.
Credits/exemptions may be considered for previous tertiary-level study or post-secondary study (including TAFE) and open learning in Australia and overseas. Each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis. It is essential that units submitted for credit/exemption fit the philosophy and principles of this degree course of study. Units studied more than 10 years ago will not be considered for credit/exemption.
