Synopsis: This subject will investigate the genre of the academic essay as a disciplinary technology and introduce students to a range of theories and alternative academic genres which contest this effect. Students will develop two major pieces of writing over the course of the semester through the practice of drafting, revision and editing in small group sessions. Basic proof-reading symbols and copy-editing skills will be taught over the semester to enhance this process.

Assessment: Essay (2000 words): 40% + Workshop project (1000 words): 25% + Folio presentation (1000 words): 25% + copy-editing test: 10%
