Chris Worth 6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prohibitions: ENH1111 Synopsis: /Text and Context0 is concerned with the ways in which human beings communicate with the verbal and non-verbal texts that we are constantly producing, with the contexts that shape these texts and with the processes by which we make them meaningful. Many of the examples we will use are literary: these include Orwell0s 1984, Ibsen0s play Ghosts and Becketts Waiting for Godot. We will also look at nonliterary, oral and visual texts and at their varying contexts. There will be opportunities for some creative exercises. Assessment: Text analysis (1500 words): 30% + Examination (1.5 hours): 25% + Practical work and seminar participation: 45% |
