This
course, offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, is
designed to assist clinicians who wish to familiarise themselves with clinical
research methodology, and to individuals employed in public health-related
positions who wish to upgrade their skills in epidemiology. The course may be
completed in one year full-time or over two years part-time. The course aims to
provide a detailed understanding of the subjects of epidemiology and
biostatistics to a level that enables critical and detailed appraisal of
epidemiological literature and the conduct of projects requiring
epidemiological and biostatistical expertise.
Applicants must have a medical degree, a bachelors degree with honours or
graduate diploma, or a three-year bachelors degree with relevant professional
experience in a health-related field. The department will individually assess
applications from students with a nursing diploma completed before the
introduction of nursing degrees. In such instances, the department may require
completion of the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Trials before enrolling in
the graduate diploma.
This course is comprised of four core subjects and four elective subjects.
Assessment is by written examination and assignment.
