Master of Management (Human Resources) Management

This 12-subject course provides current and aspiring managers with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and expertise in human resource management, with an emphasis on strategic issues.
Students commence their studies with foundation subjects focusing on current issues related to managing human resources, strategic human resource management, and strategic industrial and employee relations. Students then select subjects to suit their own interests and requirements by choosing from the wide range of elective subjects offered by the Department of Management. The course involves the study of theoretical and research developments and analysis of contemporary examples of human resource management.
The degree can be completed by either a coursework option or by a coursework and research paper options.
Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average of credit or above. Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of eight credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular requirements in the course of study. Refer to the course director for further details.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Management as to the 2001 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Course structure

The course consists of six core subjects and six electives.
(a) Six core subjects:

(b) Three electives chosen from 9000-level graduate subjects taught by the Department of Management, other departments from the Faculty of Business and Economics, or other faculties of Monash University, subject to course director approval
and
(c) Three electives chosen from 5000-level graduate subjects taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics or other faculties of Monash University, subject to course director approval
or
One elective chosen from 5000-level graduate subjects taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics, or other faculties of Monash University, with course director approval, and a 10,000-word research paper (equivalent to two subjects).
Students should complete four 9000-level graduate subjects before commencing 5000-level subjects and must obtain course director approval for any variation.
