Nursing practice 3A: Acute medical/surgical nursing A

6 points + 5 hours per week (lectures, tutorials, labs) plus 75 hours clinical + First semester + Gippsland and Peninsula + Prerequisites: NUR1101 NUR1102, NUR1301, NUR1302

Synopsis: A problem-solving approach in provision of care to acutely ill persons across the lifespan. Concepts include oxygenation, elimination and fluid and electrolyte balance. Understanding of the pathophysiological concepts will be utilised in decision making regarding appropriate nursing care of clients within these categories. The pharmacological knowledge necessary for the care of the illness states will also be addressed.

Assessment: Assignment(s): 30% + Examination: 70% + Laboratory: Pass/Fail + Clinical assessment: Pass/fail, 100% attendance mandatory
