Objectives On the completion of this subject students should be able to understand the anatomical relationships and functions of components of the upper limb; interpret upper limb radiographs and have skills in living anatomy of the region; develop a knowledge of the molecular basis of development; develop a knowledge of the way technical advances have enhanced our understanding of the reproductive system; develop a knowledge of the way cells communicate within the central nervous system; describe the principles of haematology, develop skills in the practical identification of blood cell types and disease variants, and develop an understanding of the molecular basis of blood-related diseases; develop an understanding of various aspects of forensic science.

Synopsis ANT3022 will contain a unit on the functional anatomy of the upper limb to complete the study of human anatomy. in addition to the lecture program this subject emphasises the way in which the methods described in Anatomy 3011 have expanded our understanding of reproduction, cell to cell communication, haematology, developmental biology and forensic pathology. Selected students are offered an exemption in part of the formal coursework to pursue a minor research project.

Assessment Essay (2000 words): 15% - Examinations (2 hours MCQ): 40% - Continuous assessment: 10% - Practical work: 20% - End-of-semester 'flag-race': 15%
