Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to understand the process of language acquisition through content-based teaching; examine and reflect upon the implementation of a content-based approach in their particular school setting; devise language strategies (verbal and non-verbal) for teaching subject matter content in their particular language; design and trial at least one content-based series of lessons for one of their classes.

Synopsis This subject aims to develop teachers' awareness and understanding of how subject matter content can be taught through a language other than English. The seminars will provide students with examples of successful models of content-based teaching and assist them to develop and trial units in different content areas, together with strategies to teach these in the language.

Assessment Participation in seminar activities: 10% - List of strategies: 20% - Oral presentation: 20% - Five lesson plans: 50%
