To
educate information professionals to manage information in all media to meet
the social and business needs of the community for information services and
products.
To provide a professional course in librarianship grounded in the humanities
and social sciences, and contemporary information and communication
technology.
To produce independent, self-sufficient professionals able to work in a range
of roles, as an employee, team member, contractor or self-employed practitioner.
Recognition of this new course is being sought from the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
Applicants must have qualified for a bachelors degree at Monash University or at another teriary institution approved by the faculty.
Students need to have access to a PC with a CD-Rom drive and a modem. Access to the Internet, email and a Web browser (such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) via a commercial service provider.
Some subjects will have an occasional weekend school at Clayton campus, for example 3 per semester.
Students can enter in either first or second semester.
Assessment is a combination of projects, essays, exercises and open-book tests.
There is provision for advanced standing and credit transfer. This will be finalised after offer.
