Recruitment, selection, placement: emerging issues and strategies

Objectives The aim of this subject is to examine emerging issues influencing, and strategies used by, those involved in recruitment, selection and placement. On completion of the subject students should be able to (1) extend their understanding of key concepts and practices introduced in MGG2322, (2) assess internal environmental factors which impact on an organisation's human resource requirements and identify strategies to effectively cope with these influences, (3) discuss those external environmental factors influencing client demand for a greater diversity and range of HR skills and services, (4) identify strategies to effectively assess organisation recruitment and development needs and report this information to clients - in particular, report on the validity, reliability and feasibility of current recruitment and selection practices and the use of HR information systems, (5) identify core commercial aspects of an HR consulting practice, (6) explain the basic sequence of the project management process and use of selected of project management tools.

Synopsis The subject focuses on key strategies used by those involved in recruitment, selection and placement to find workplace solutions for their clients. The influence of the internal and external environmental on human resource requirements are discussed along with a changing client demand for an emerging range of HR services. The ability to assess organisation recruitment and development needs and report this information to clients, particularly the validity, reliability and feasibility of selection practices are emphasised. Core project and performance management processes and commercial and client management strategies for an emerging range of HR services are examined
