Music pedagogy

8 points - 4 hours per week - First semester - Clayton - Prerequisites: MUS2110 and MUS2120.

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject students should have gained a foundation for curriculum development in music education; discussed the pedagogy of the solo instrument versus the pedagogy of the classroom; and participated in seminars dealing with comparative music education.

Synopsis The history, philosophy, psychology and critical study of various methodologies (eg Orff and Kodaly) used at all levels of music education. Topics include testing and measurement, administration and supervision, course and curricula development, and modes and transmission of learning across the cultures, with particular focus on the Australian scene.

Assessment Written (4000 words): 50% - Assignments and seminar participation: 50%
