Objectives On completion of this subject, students will gain an historical overview of the legislation and policies relating to Aboriginal land law. Students will be able to analyse and critically comment on land law and assess the impact of the common law and Australian legislation on land rights for Indeginous Australians.

Synopsis This subject undertakes a study of the High Court Mabo decision, the Native Title Act and an historical overview of the land rights decision. The main topics will include an examination of land tenure, British law, colonisation, sovereignity, the land rights movement from an historical and contemporary perspective.

Assessment Tutorial presentation and written summary (1000 words): 25% Essay (3000 words): 35% Examination (two hours): 40%
