8 points - 3 hours per week (one 1-hour lecture, one 2-hour tutorial) - Second semester - Gippsland - Prerequisites: GSC1902 and GSC1903 or equivalents

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of a range of practices involved in television production through practical instructions and critical analysis; teamwork and co-operation in television production; skills in recording; editing and producing television news and current affairs stories; an understanding of planning, directing and producing television news and current affairs programs; familiarity with the responsibilities of journalists in the representation of age, gender and cultural diversity in news and current affairs stories/programs.

Synopsis This subject will explore the role of television news and current affairs in society. Issues of the production of meaning by television news construction and editing will be considered. The subject will address the issues of news production and journalism field work in television. Students will be instructed in the use of audio-visual recording equipment and digital editing.

Assessment Journal (1000 words): 15% Television news stories (2 each, 2 minutes): 20% Television current affairs story (3-4 minutes): 30% Critical essay (1000 words): 15%
