Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students will have an understanding of the importance of a critical awareness of current affairs, techniques for writing news for print publications, and professional practices for assessing and managing information.
Synopsis This subject builds an understanding of the ways in which journalism can be conceptualised and various conditions (political, social and cultural) in which journalism is practised. A historical perspective on the institution of journalism will be contributed to this understanding.
Assessment Students will be assessed by regular short quizzes, and assignments on news writing and information gathering.
