Design and scripting for multimedia

3 points - 2 studio hours and 4 independent study hours per week - First semester - Caulfield - Corequisites: DIS1906 - Elective

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to skilfully and creatively communicate with 'new media'; define, develop, plan and organise material for publication; explain the concepts of interactivity, non-linear narrative, navigation, and graphical user interface controls; devise and develop a storyboard/script for a multimedia publication.

Synopsis This unit is an area of specialisation for visual communication students and an elective for other students. The subject develops students' understanding of multimedia. The emphasis is on specific requirements for a successful multimedia publication, from the concept to the design, scripting, planning, coordinating, testing and publishing of a 'title' The unit could be considered a foundation course, dealing with the 'nuts and bolts,' prior to the actual production of a multimedia project. Upon completion of this unit students have planned a project that can be produced in the next subject in the sequence - DIS2701. The course is delivered through small group sessions of fifteen students per group.
