Jewellery/metals practice and theory 3

12 points - 8 studio hours and 16 independent study hours per week - First semester - Caulfield - Prerequisites: APA1502 - Corequisites: APA1601 and APA1602

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to investigate ideas using skills in a variety of visual processes and technologies; understand the value of exploration through models and samples; have an ability to evaluate concepts and critically reflect on their resolution; understand the implications of scale when interpreting designs; choose appropriate methods of production from a wider exploration of industrial and studio-related jewellery and metalsmithing processes; be proficient in applying health and safety procedures associated with studio practice.

Synopsis This subject provides a rigorous program to broaden students' awareness of concepts and techniques across a range of approaches and encourages them to seek appropriate solutions. Continued research and investigation materials and processes fosters the acquisition of a technical language and influences appropriate choices to realise concepts. Emphasis is placed on students' continued capacity to critically assess their own work as well as that of their peers.
