Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have a working knowledge of the principles and elements of design theory within the context of jewellery/metalsmithing; be able to critically evaluate and analyse design ideas; be able to effectively use resource information to formulate design solutions; understand the processes of problem solving.
Synopsis This subject explores design theory as a tool for developing concepts and aesthetic concerns. Emphasis is placed on the development of both practical and theoretical skills. Design methodology demonstrates the processes involved in developing work from the initial concept through to planning and completion of individual projects. A study of contemporary design issues, with a particular focus on jewellery and metalsmithing, is also included.
